This is a comedy starring John Candy. It begins quite funny, with every cliché of slapstick being dragged out and working a good chuckle, but soon turns serious, as taugenichts Uncle Buck becomes the effective guardian of the chastity of the rebellious teenage daughter. So family triumphs. But the whole lascivious culture which serves as the backdrop is never challenged fundamentally. The extreme profanity of the young children is never dealt with, for example, and this serves therefore as a demoralizing way merely to get a cheap laugh from the debauched targeted viewer.
