Thanks for the response. I have read this post and several others. The only posts under "Judaica" that deal with theology are refutations of dispensationalism more than anything else. Interesting stuff, but nevertheless I anxiously await this question of, "Why does Michael Butler dislike the Jews?" Indeed, that is the question I am asking. I can come up with great reasons for why unbelievers in general dislike Jews (worldly reasons, of course)---but you are not an unbeliever, which is why I asked why *you* dislike Jews.

I am aware of the NT's view of a certain type of Jew, of course, but that is why your dislike of the Jews is so confusing---you really makes no distinction between Messianic Jews, orthodox Jews, secular Jews, Jesus, or anyone else. Instead I read the same dull conspiracy-laced language that populates the writing of any typical "anti-Semite". So I am led to believe that you dislike Jews for the same baseless reasons as the world.

Keith -

I don't think your question is the right one. Perhaps I do dislike most jews, what does this have to do with this post? At best it may give you a possible motive for writing it, but little more. Lewis called this Bulverism.

A better question is, why are jews so disliked? Try to think of any group that is so generally distrusted and even despised. Why is this? The answer most often given is that people are prejudiced and hate-filled. But this is no answer at all since prejudice and hate can be directed to anybody. The question is, why jews?

Another answer is that they are a special people and others are jealous of them. Or, similarly, since the jew is good and the Gentile bad, one should expect hatred from the Gentile towards the jew. The jews believe this about themselves of course, but so do the Fundies, by and large, although for different reasons. The former hold to a racial supremacist theology derived from the Talmud, the later from a perverse misreading of Scripture. Since both are false, this cannot be why jews are generally disliked. (Though that the jews believe this about themselves and act accordingly may provide the primary basis of why they are a "persecuted" people.)
The real answer can be found through reading all the post under the subcategory "judaica." Start with the one above. What is the basic point I am making? Then as you read the other posts start making a list of their major theses. At the end you will find a compelling case as to why jews are disliked.

As for why "jewish infiltration" is bad, just switch jewish with Muslim or animism or feminism or sadism and you will have the answer.

I hope to write a post on the New Testament's view of the jew. I'll try to do it soon, but no promises.

it’s just that you’ve been hanging around here long enough that you should be able to frame tighter and more relevant questions by now.

Nice try Tim, but ever since your blog devolved to a bizarre fixation on stupid topics (IMHO) I stopped reading regularly. Maybe you should go back to reviewing seasons of Sex and City? Pretty deep stuff.

“liking” is neither here nor there. ... The thesis about the jewish infiltration could be accepted by someone that “likes” jews as individuals, or rejected by someone that yet dislikes jews.

Good job, Tim. Now you can explain to me your biblical basis for disliking Jews. If your dislike is rooted in the "Jewish infiltration" (horror of horrors!) then all you need to do is explain from scripture why the "Jewish infiltration" should be opposed. Pretty complex, I know.

(Don't mind my sarcasm, Tim. I'm sure you can take a little bit of what you give. No hard feelings.)

The thesis about the jewish infiltration could be accepted by someone that "likes" jews as individuals, or rejected by someone that yet dislikes jews. Most humans will have a likeability mode that is flexible and contingent, liking some jews, and disliking others, just as with any other persons. Meanwhile, the considerations of the post are what they are -- true or false, valid or invalid.

So, if you have a question about the post, then identify the particular premise or step in the argument and focus your question. If you are interacting with a comment, identify the # of it and the issue.

Keith -- not mocking; it's just that you've been hanging around here long enough that you should be able to frame tighter and more relevant questions by now. The point is, "liking" is neither here nor there. Liking is a subjective matter of taste, and it is silly to ask for biblical warrant for it.

Tim, it is apparent that you and Daniel are mocking me... that would suggest that the answer to my question is obvious. Well, pardon me for being on a lower intellectual level than you, but no, I don't know what biblical basis you have for disliking Jews. I'm still awaiting a meaningful response. Thanks.

Keith -- MB is inundated with a major move and prep for a conference, so I'll take a stab at your serious question #32 to fill the gap until he returns.

I'm thinking, Hezekiah 3:23: "Thou shalt dislike French opera, jews, and caviar."

Gal 3:29 And if you be Christ's, then are you Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Jews are people that "jew" you outta money and want their daughters to marry doctors that overprescribe harmful SSRI's and unscrupulous lawyers. People that hairsplit about the color of the sky and what a Jew is are reasonable assumed to be Jewish as well.

Jews send money to the ADL.

Jews live in Israel and practice Judaism or had mothers who did, or grandmothers, or great-grandmothers who did.

Jews run Hollywood.

Jews were put in concentration camps in Germany.

And please define what you mean by "Jew"---is it someone of the Jewish race (Abraham's seed) or is someone alive today who adheres to Judaism?
