Tristan March 22

Start boning up for next Saturday’s Met broadcast of Tristan and Isolde, starting at 12:30. This is another of the great ones. I would be there except it has long been sold out.

  1. For a warm up, below is the prelude with the famous “Tristan chord.” Below this are two version of the Liebestod. The first by Nilsson the other sung by Nina Stemme. Stemme sang in the Domingo version (never performed live).

The overwhelming power of the Liebstod climax cannot be experienced without watching what precedes it, but it is still powerful when stands alone.

  2. At this site, if you find T&I you can open the libretto by clicking E for English or D for German. The best is to get them side by side but the only way I can figure out to do that is copy-and-paste into dual-column formatted word processor.

As of this moment you have about three hours to get set up.
