I saw a documentary on the making of Jaws where I learned that the noise used in Duel of the truck falling to its doom which was from an old B monster movie was reused by Spielberg for Jaws as he was plummeting to the bottom of the sea at the end of the picture. Spielberg mentioned the “occult” similarity between Duel and Jaws which if I’m not mistaken influenced his doing the picture. Both pictures had 4 letter titles, both were about an all consuming violent menace etc., and thus he ceremonially implemented elements of the one film into the other.
